The Friends of the Dedham Public Library is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1982 and is made up of committed volunteers who work to support the Dedham Public Library staff, programs, and events in serving the community.

The Friends’ Board ensures all proceeds from our nominal dues, generous donations, book sales and other fundraising go to support the library. Our book sales have long been a major way for us to raise funds – as well as providing a wonderful way for you to donate books you have read and would like to share. These sales also offer a great opportunity to find new treasures for your own reading pleasure. Anyone can join the Friends — and we hope you will. We value our sustainers, our book sale patrons, and our community sponsors who help fund our Museum Pass Plus Program, which provides anyone with a library card admission to some fourteen stellar museums, with more to come — as well as to other exciting places and programs — all at a significant discount.

We have been pleased to help underwrite the cost of a wide selection of classes, events, and exhibits in the library for children, teens, and adults. And, we’ve provided funds to purchase more than forty pieces of new furniture, including comfortable new chairs and couches, as well as computer tables and chairs. We are especially delighted to have been able to help provide the new furniture in the children’s room for the library’s youngest patrons. And most recently, we’ve contributed funds to create the exciting new teen space in the downstairs media room. Every year we also provide books for young readers at Dedham’s Halloween Trunk or Treat Program.

We are an all-volunteer organization whose members love the library. We welcome your ideas, enthusiasm, and participation.
