HomeStart providers housing services for people who are currently experiencing homelessness, who have recently moved from homelessness to housing, or who are at risk of becoming homeless by way of eviction. HomeStart serves thousands of people each year in the Greater Boston Area. Their clients include single parents and their children, survivors of domestic violence, veterans, and persons with disabilities. All of them are living at or below the poverty line.

Metro Housing Boston’s services help residents of greater Boston bridge gaps in the homelessness prevention and affordable housing system. Working with individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes navigate available services, they empower 25,000 households a year to move along the continuum from homelessness to housing stability.

The Housing Court Department handles all matters involving residential housing such as eviction cases, small claims cases, and civil actions involving personal injury, property damage, breach of contract, discrimination, as well as code enforcement actions and appeals of local zoning board decisions that affect residential housing.

RAFT provides up to $7,000 per 12-month period so eligible families can stay in their current home or move to a new one. They may use the money for rent, utilities, moving costs, and mortgage payments.
The Emergency Housing Assistance page provides resources to find shelter if you are in emergency need of housing. Separate shelter services are available for individuals and for people with children (including pregnant people). There are also resources for households at risk of foreclosure or eviction, looking for support services, and individuals experiencing domestic violence.

Family Promise transforms the lives of families with children that are facing homelessness by mobilizing a diverse community to provide shelter, education, and comprehensive support. They serve low- and moderate-income families with at least one child under the age of 18 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
